Generative AI Policy

Jurnal Pendidikan Karakter (JPKA) does not prohibit the use of generative AI tools, but it requires that such use be disclosed and that responsibility for the work remain entirely with the people who sign it. A tool cannot be accountable for a claim; only an author can.

☺ Authors

✔ Generally acceptable, if disclosed
Language editing and proofreading; improving the readability of text the authors wrote; translation; assistance with coding or formatting; suggesting literature that the authors then locate, read, and verify themselves.
✖ Not acceptable
Generating text, data, or images presented as the authors' own work; fabricating or augmenting data; producing a reference list without verifying every item; writing substantive analysis or interpretation; listing an AI tool as an author.

✎ How to Disclose

Every manuscript includes a Declaration of Generative AI Use. State the name and version of the tool, what it was used for, and how the output was checked. Where no such tool was used, say so. Two examples:

“The authors used [tool, version] to improve the readability and language of the manuscript. After using the tool, the authors reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.”

“The authors did not use generative AI tools in the preparation of this manuscript.”

Use that does not require disclosure includes basic spelling and grammar checking of the kind built into word processors, and reference management software.

↻ Reviewers

⚠ Reviewers must not upload a manuscript, or any part of it, to a generative AI tool. A manuscript under review is a confidential document, and uploading it to an external service breaches that confidence, whatever the service's stated privacy terms. Reviewers write their own reviews and are fully responsible for their content.

★ Editors

  • Editors do not use generative AI tools to make or justify editorial decisions, and do not upload manuscripts to such tools.
  • Editors may use software, including AI-assisted software, to screen for similarity or image manipulation, but the judgement that follows is made by a person.
  • Where undisclosed use of generative AI is suspected, the editors ask the authors for an explanation and proceed under the Research Misconduct policy.

⚖ Responsibility

Authors are accountable for everything in their manuscript, including anything produced with the help of a tool. Fabricated references, invented data, plagiarised passages, and false claims are treated in exactly the same way whether a person or a tool produced them.
