Abstract

The study was to test the learning effectiveness of program simulation method by using the trainer kit in Microcontroller System courses. The study was conducted to the students who took the microcontroller system courses in the academic year of 2013/2014. The students who took the course were divided into three groups and each of the group served as: (1) the experimental group; (2) control group; and (3) test instrument group. The learning outcome variables (Y2) and the awareness of thinkings (Y1) served as the dependent variable; on the other hand, the motivation (X1) and the creativity (X2) served as independent variables. The data analysis was done by performing the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) in order to see the differences in the learning outcomes and the level of students thinking. The results of the study showed that there have been significant differences in the level of metacognition and the level of learning outcomes competence on the program simulation method by using the trainer kit on microcontroller systems course  in comparison to those who were not using it.

Author Biographies

Edidas Edidas, Padang State University

Edidas is a lecturer of Microcontroller Systems Course in the Electronic Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University. He was born in Cupak Village, Sub-Country of Gunung Talang, County of Solok, Province of West Sumatra, in February 09th, 1963. He studied in the 6 Cupak State Elementary School from 1970 until 1975. Then, he studied in the Negeri Talang State Junior High School from 1977 until 1980. Next, he studied in Lubuk Begalung State Senior High School (now 4 Padang State Senior High School) from 1980 until 1983. In his period of Senior High School, he took the Natural Science major. After finishing the period of fundamental and moderate education degree, he continued his higher education to the Institute of Teachers Training and Education Padang from 1983 until 1987. In the institute, he took the Electronic Engineering Study Program in the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Education. From 2000 until 2002, he continued his graduate education in the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology Surabaya and in the institute he took the Electronic Engineering Study Program. Recently he has just finished his Postgraduate Program in Yogyakarta State University, specifically in the Technology and Vocational Study Program from 2010 until 2015.

Jalius Jama, Padang State University

Jalius Jama was born on 5 February 1942. He works as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University. He attained his bachelor degree from Yogyakarta Institute of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences (recently known as Yogyakarta State University), master degree from Sam Houston State University, USA, and his doctoral degree from Ohio State University, USA.
