04 — Title, authors, abstract, and keywords

  • Title. Write a concise, specific title that clearly communicates the central issue and scholarly contribution. Avoid unnecessary abbreviations and vague phrases.

  • Authors. Provide each author's full name without academic titles, institutional affiliation, country, and institutional email address. Identify the corresponding author and provide a valid contact email.

  • Author order. Agree on the author order before submission. Every listed author must meet the journal's authorship criteria and approve the submitted manuscript.

  • Title page. Provide the title, author details, affiliations, corresponding author's information, and other requested declarations in a separate file if required by the submission system.

  • Abstract. Write 150–200 words in English in a single paragraph. For empirical research, include the research problem or background, objective, methods, principal findings, and conclusion. For review or conceptual articles, describe the review or analytical approach, main argument, and contribution.

  • Keywords. Provide 3–5 specific terms or phrases that represent the manuscript's main concepts. Avoid keywords that are too broad or simply repeat the title without adding useful indexing information.

05 — Structure of the manuscript

The structure should reflect the manuscript type. The following structures are recommended to ensure clarity, methodological transparency, and scholarly depth.

01

Introduction

Explain the research background, problem, relevant literature, research gap, significance, objectives, and originality. Establish the theoretical or conceptual foundation where appropriate.

02

Method

Describe the research design, setting, participants or data sources, sampling or selection criteria, instruments or procedures, data collection, and analytical methods. Provide sufficient detail for readers to assess the credibility and rigour of the research.

03

Results or Findings

Present the research results in a logical order, organised by research question, theme, hypothesis, or analytical category. Use tables and figures where they improve clarity.

04

Discussion

Interpret the findings in relation to theories, previous research, and the wider scholarly context. Explain the contribution, implications, and significance of the results rather than merely repeating them.

05

Conclusion

Summarise the main conclusions and explain how they answer the research objectives. State the principal contribution, relevant limitations, and implications for further research or practice.

06

References

List all sources cited in the manuscript. Verify the accuracy of author names, publication years, titles, journal details, page ranges, and DOI links.

For systematic reviews, include the review question, databases and search strategy, eligibility criteria, study selection, and synthesis procedures. A selection-flow diagram should be included where appropriate. For conceptual articles, organise the manuscript around the theoretical problem, critical analysis, development of the argument or framework, and its implications.

06 — Declarations and publication transparency

Authors must provide relevant declarations in accordance with the journal's applicable policies and submission instructions. Where a declaration is required, authors must provide a statement even when no relevant issue exists.

Statement

What to include

Acknowledgements

Recognise individuals or institutions that provided substantial assistance but do not qualify for authorship. Obtain permission where appropriate.

Conflict of interest

Disclose financial or non-financial interests that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the research. If none exists, state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Funding

Identify each funding organisation and grant number, if applicable, and describe the funder's role. If the research received no specific funding, state this explicitly.

Data availability

Explain where and how supporting data can be accessed. If data cannot be shared, explain the ethical, legal, privacy, or other relevant restrictions.

Ethics approval and informed consent

Identify the approving ethics committee and approval reference, where applicable. Explain how informed consent was obtained for research involving human participants.

Author contributions

Describe each author's contribution. The CRediT taxonomy may be used to specify roles such as conceptualisation, methodology, investigation, analysis, and writing.

Generative AI use

Disclose the use of generative AI in accordance with the journal's Generative AI Policy. Identify the tool and its role where required. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the manuscript. AI tools must not be listed as authors.

ORCID

Provide each author's ORCID iD as a full link, for example, https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000.

Authors should follow the current Authorship, Generative AI Policy, and other applicable HUMANIKA publication policies. Where a dedicated policy page is unavailable or its URL has changed, consult the journal's current OJS pages or contact the editorial team.

07 — Tables and figures

  • Numbering. Number tables and figures consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the manuscript.

  • Titles and captions. Give each table and figure a clear, descriptive title or caption. Place table titles above tables and figure captions below figures, unless the journal template specifies otherwise.

  • Readability. Ensure that all labels, symbols, abbreviations, units, and notes are understandable and consistent with the manuscript.

  • Tables. Use tables to present relevant information clearly. Avoid duplicating all the same data in the main text.

  • Figures. Submit clear, high-resolution figures. Text, axes, legends, and labels must remain legible at publication size.

  • Sources and permissions. Cite the source of reproduced or adapted material. Obtain permission from the copyright holder whenever required.

  • In-text references. Refer to every table and figure in the manuscript and place it near the relevant discussion.

08 — Citations and references

  • Consistency. Every in-text citation must correspond to a reference-list entry, and every reference-list entry must be cited in the manuscript.

  • Accuracy. Verify author names, years, titles, publication details, page ranges, and DOI information.

  • Scholarly relevance. Prioritise credible primary sources and peer-reviewed publications that directly support the research problem, theoretical framework, methods, and discussion.

  • Recency. Include recent research where relevant, while retaining seminal works needed to establish the theoretical foundation.

  • DOI. Present DOI information as a resolvable link in the form https://doi.org/... whenever a DOI is available.

  • Reference management. Authors are encouraged to use reference-management software to improve consistency and reduce citation errors.

  • Referencing style. Apply the reference style specified in the current HUMANIKA manuscript template or official author instructions consistently throughout the manuscript.

Authors should not add irrelevant references merely to increase the reference count. The reference list must demonstrate engagement with the most relevant and reliable scholarship in the field.
