The study aims to find: 1) multicultural education patterns to develop tolerance in SMA BOPKRI 2, SMA N 3, and SMA Al-Azhar 9 Yogyakarta, and 2) multicultural education patterns to develop ideal tolerance in SMA. The research approach uses qualitative descriptive. The research subjects are the Principal, Vice Principal, and Subject Teachers. Data collection uses observation, interviews, and documentation. Data are analyzed using an interactive model, including data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion. Data validity with triangulation techniques and sources. Results Research 1. Multicultural education patterns develop tolerance in high schools. It was found that: (a) Multicultural education in BOPKRI 2 High School uses a multicultural approach to the mandate, vision, mission and objectives developed by BOPKRI 2 High School. as a multicultural school. (b) Multicultural Education SMA Negeri 3 uses a diversity literacy approach, the characteristic of implementing multicultural education is managing the diversity of students from various ethnic, racial, traditional, linguistic, and religious backgrounds. (c) Multicultural education in SMA AL AZHAR 9 has an open, inclusive pattern related to the teachings of Islam Wassatiyah. 2) The ideal pattern is the result of the novelty of the dissertation research, conceptualized based on the pattern explored by the three schools where the research was conducted, named the pattern of multicultural education moderate tolerance empathy. The values of moderate tolerance empathy as a motor of moderation empathy towards the mindset and attitude behaviour in high schools (SMA) with multicultural characteristics.
