Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences of fourth-semester students in the Visual Arts Education Program as they participate in arts learning based on the creative pedagogy approach. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four informants who participated in a videography course. The results of the thematic analysis show that the creative pedagogy approach fosters freedom of expression, encourages the use of imagination, and facilitates the exploration of students' personal styles. Students reported feeling more emotionally and reflectively engaged in the learning process, and they developed their artistic identities through the freedom to choose media, themes, and techniques. A significant difference was also felt compared to conventional learning, which was more technical and limited. Thus, the creative pedagogy approach is considered relevant for implementation in visual arts education to support the development of character and students' readiness to face the challenges of contemporary art and the creative industry.
